An exhibition of works on paper.

Sutherland Shire artist, Lee Bethel, is interested in the materiality of paper; how it can be manipulated to create an endless array of forms.

The Exhibition, currently on show at Adelaide Perry Gallery until 25 October, is truly amazing. Lee painstakingly cuts, punctures, folds and arranges paper to achieve breathtakingly intricate patterning, structure and shadows in her artworks.

Lee’s works in ' A Way with Words' use song lyrics, speeches, quotes and names, and the relationship between object, place and memory, to examine women, feminism and the domestic environment. The purposeful selection of different texts from powerful women throughout history, deliver a sentiment that is only made clear through a deep contemplation of each work. The result is both quiet and intimate, as well as powerful and emphatic. The installation was commissioned by Hazelhurst Arts Centre as part of their exhibition Quintet and was on display from 10 September until 13 November, 2022.
