Day 2 PM Workshop: HSC English Mock Paper 1 - Text & Human Experiences

This workshop is suitable for students in both Standard and Advanced English.

Section 1: Unseen Texts and Comprehension Standard & Advanced

This workshop has been designed as a mock HSC English exam for the common module, Texts and Human Experiences. This mock exam focuses on paper 1, section 1 - unseen texts and comprehension, often thought of as the most difficult section of the English HSC papers as it primarily assesses English analysis skills rather than content knowledge. This workshop will review the common module rubric and will provide a warm-up activity, after which will follow a traditional style section 1 examination with reading time. After completing the exam, the teacher will mark the exam on the board, explaining the reasoning behind full-mark answers and what is required to achieve this for the current exam that was set. Each reviewed question will allow time for discussion of the texts and student responses to the questions.

Students will revise and consolidate the following areas:

  • Exam formats and reading with purpose
  • How to get started and identify techniques
  • Considering audience and purpose in analysis
  • Extended responses and comparison questions

Venue: PLC Sydney Demountables D2
