Designed for Years 5 and 6 students, our Holiday Maths and English Course aims to boost academic performance and foster a love for learning. This program offers tailored lessons that reinforce key concepts and introduce advanced material, helping students excel in both subjects.
In English, students will begin with shared reading to practise fluency and comprehension, followed by vocabulary development where they explore unfamiliar words through meanings, synonyms, antonyms and sentence use, building a word wall. They will then strengthen their comprehension by answering literal, inferential and evaluative questions. Later, students will deepen their critical reading skills by analysing text structure, language features, persuasive techniques and tone, before writing evidence-based responses that use quotes to support their ideas.
In Mathematics, students will revise fractions by adding and subtracting like and unlike denominators and practise multiplication of larger numbers and decimals within real-world problem-solving scenarios. To conclude, they will be introduced to algebra through number patterns, simple equations and forming algebraic expressions to represent real-life problems. The day ends with a reflection on new strategies and vocabulary learned.
